The Bible is the lifeblood of our faith. It is the divinely revealed story of God’s interaction with the human family.
In the Old Testament, we hear about God’s plan to gather a nation together. God establishes his covenant with Israel and, through it, prepares the human family for the great gift of salvation in Christ Jesus.
In the New Testament, we hear how God’s plan and promise to Israel is fulfilled in the person of his Son, Jesus. Early Christians proclaimed their faith in writing about their experiences with Jesus. They share with us information about his earthly life, his teachings, his miracles and, most importantly, his suffering, death and resurrection. The New Testament also highlights the work of the early Christian Church from the time of Pentecost through the end of the 1st century.
As St. Jerome once wrote, “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.”
Bible studies are offered in the morning and evening through the Fall and Spring. Watch the parish bulletin for information about these special opportunities to read and study the Scriptures.
Tuesday AM Women's Bible Study
9:30 - 11: 30 AM
St. Mark classroom
Study begins in the fall (watch the Sunday bulletin for announcements). We have studied the Lectionary (the Sunday readings) for all three years: A, B, and C - from Advent to Pentecost. Current plans are to continue with the study of the Lectionary, picking up the Sundays of Ordinary Time for the next three cycles. When we begin, there is usually a short study on a specific topic. Weekly Mass attendance is helpful, as is taking time at home to complete the reading and homework. Much discussion of the Sunday readings happens on Tuesday mornings - what catches our attention, what needs clarification, and what is behind the readings - this makes up our study of God's Word. Join us and dig deeper into your faith!
