OUR HISTORY
The Catholic parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was established by Bishop John T. Steinbock of the Diocese of Fresno, on April 1, 2008. It is the first Catholic parish erected in Kern County since 1968.
The parish includes Catholic households living within the following geographical boundaries: north of Rosedale Highway, south of 7th Standard Road, east of Highway 43 and west of Freeway 99.
Msgr. Perry Kavookjian was appointed first pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on April 15, 2008. With seed money provided by various local parishes, a home was purchased and a parish office set up. Msgr. Perry visited various local parishes and registered nearly 200 households for the new parish. At that time, “St. Elizabeth Ann Seton” was voted on as the name of the new parish.
In September 2008, the parish held its first Masses at Frontier High School. Nearly 2,000 people attended the opening Masses. Currently, the parish has about 725 registered households.
Since 2008, various ministries have been established to meet the spiritual needs of the parishioners. Several working committees are also operating to oversee parish finances, the capital campaign and outreach to the community.
